I teach basic horseback riding, safety and horsemanship with good solid horse skills, along with horse care for those with the goal of horse ownership. My goal is for my students to learn the proper way to behave around horses, how to care for them, how to ride and why things are done they way they are; and to become accomplished, competent and independent trail riders. My lessons are generally one on one private lessons, although I do have a couple group lesson with a few of the more advanced students. I teach ages 6 through adult and I have MANY referrals should you want to talk with past or present students. I have gaited and non gaited horses. I teach those who have never seen a horse in person to those who have been hurt or lost their confidence and need confidence recovery (referral for this too!) We offer beginner to intermediate riding lessons in a safe and fun environment. We have two riding instructors available along with a small and large arena. We specialize in proper equitation and horsemanship for all riding disciplines.

Lesson Options and Pricing:

Individual Lessons - $50 per hour: Our one-on-one lessons are designed to provide personalized instruction to riders who prefer
individual attention. During these lessons, our experienced instructors will work closely with you to focus on your specific goals
and help you improve your riding technique.

Group Lessons (4 or more persons) - $35 per person per hour: If you prefer a social and collaborative learning environment, our
group lessons are perfect for you. These lessons are conducted in a small group setting of four or more riders, allowing for peer
interaction and learning from one another, while still receiving individualized instruction from our skilled instructors.

Our Lessons Include:
Instruction on basic horsemanship, including grooming, tacking, and handling
Riding techniques, including proper positioning, balance, and control
Progressive skill development based on your individual level of experience
Opportunity to ride well-trained horses suitable for riders of all ages and skill levels

What will I learn?
If you are a new rider and do not already have a discipline preference your strengths and weaknesses can be assessed in the first few lessons. From that point it can be determined what riding style will be more beneficial to pursue.
If you are an intermediate or advanced rider The Academy welcomes all disciplines. Whether your goal is to be competitive at breed shows or have a handy trail or ranch horse, Flying Heels can get you there. Jennifer has experience in the following disciplines: western pleasure, western horsemanship, trail, showmanship, halter, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, working hunter over fences, dressage, reining, extreme cowboy competitions, working cow horse, and ranch sorting. She is currently working on adding Cowboy Mounted Shooting to the list!
All aspects of equine care are covered in the lesson program. Proper use and fitting of equipment, lunging, trailer loading, nutrition, grooming, and first aid are a few examples of ground work that will be covered.

All lessons include a full hour of under saddle instructional time. Lessons are available on your horse or a lesson horse. Please have your horse tacked up and ready prior to lesson time. Proper riding attire is mandatory: boots with a minimum of a ½” of heel and helmets for riders under 18. Helmets for adults are recommended. Please use safe tack and good judgment.
 Training per ride (travel): $35
 Training per ride (no travel): $25
Training is available by the ride. The duration of the training session depends mostly on how far along the horse is, bad habits, and the horse’s stamina. If ground work is necessary prior to any under saddle work, this will be included.
The training and lesson process: All horses and riders learn at different speeds and have varying skills and strengths. These factors will determine you and your horse’s progress. Marilyn Austin, giving riding instruction at Chastain Horse Park, in Atlanta, Ga offers lessons to children and adults, beginner to advanced riders are welcome. Certified by the British Horse Society, Marilyn has taught professionally for over 30 years in the Metro Atlanta area. Her foundation for instruction came from an elite riding school SW of London, but years of teaching has provided experience in many types of lesson environments, with multiple riding disciplines. Extensive work with Special Olympics over the years, and working with 4-H, Marilyn enjoys the process of helping riders develop skills, and focuses on education about horsemanship, safety, and teaching all riders to appreciate the horse or pony. Positive reinforcment, and a proven method of learning from the ground up has helped many students over the years become accomplished equestrians, many of whom now continue to ride as adults,and continue to be involved with the horse industry.
When Marilyn joined the team of instructors at Chastain Horse Park, she then acquired certification from NARHA, which enhanced her previous equine education, and qualified her to safely teach and supervise riding for children and adults with special needs.
