Red Star Equestrian is a family oriented farm located in Maysville, GA offering beginner and intermediate english and western riding lessons for ages 6 and up. Lessons include learning how to groom brush the horse, saddle, and ride with an emphasis on safety and fun! Instructor Kristin Taylor has been riding horses for over 20 years and instructing for 10 years. She worked at the Lake Lanier Island Equestrian Center for 4 years teaching lessons and leading trail rides. During college she rode for the University of Georgia's Varsity Equestrian Team. What will I learn?
If you are a new rider and do not already have a discipline preference your strengths and weaknesses can be assessed in the first few lessons. From that point it can be determined what riding style will be more beneficial to pursue.
If you are an intermediate or advanced rider The Academy welcomes all disciplines. Whether your goal is to be competitive at breed shows or have a handy trail or ranch horse, Flying Heels can get you there. Jennifer has experience in the following disciplines: western pleasure, western horsemanship, trail, showmanship, halter, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, working hunter over fences, dressage, reining, extreme cowboy competitions, working cow horse, and ranch sorting. She is currently working on adding Cowboy Mounted Shooting to the list!
All aspects of equine care are covered in the lesson program. Proper use and fitting of equipment, lunging, trailer loading, nutrition, grooming, and first aid are a few examples of ground work that will be covered.
Lesson Specifics:
 Semi-Private Lesson: $35
 Private Lesson (w/ travel): $45
 Private Lesson (no travel): $40
 Group Lesson (3+): $30
All lessons include a full hour of under saddle instructional time. Lessons are available on your horse or a lesson horse. Please have your horse tacked up and ready prior to lesson time. Proper riding attire is mandatory: boots with a minimum of a ½” of heel and helmets for riders under 18. Helmets for adults are recommended. Please use safe tack and good judgment.

Training is available by the ride. The duration of the training session depends mostly on how far along the horse is, bad habits, and the horse’s stamina. If ground work is necessary prior to any under saddle work, this will be included.
The training and lesson process: All horses and riders learn at different speeds and have varying skills and strengths. These factors will determine you and your horse’s progress. Riding lessons are offered for beginners through advanced. All lessons are private and customized to the individual.

Dressage training – intro through FEI levels, using a classical dressage approach. – show prep and coaching also available.

Foundation building for riders of all disciplines (western, huntseat, gaited, etc), using natural horsemanship and classical dressage principles. We focus on:

• Understanding the nature of the horse
• Developing an independent seat and correct use of aids
• Learning timing and feel
• Establishing leadership
• Creating lightness
• Encouraging your horse’s athleticism
• Fostering a true partnership between horse and rider

Especially for beginners and new horse owners, we offer lessons in complete horsemanship – including ground work, fitting of tack, horse health care and management, and more.

A horse trainer and riding instructor for over 40 years, Sandi has extensive experience working with a variety of challenges and unique situations, including:

• Adult beginner riders
• Riders returning after a long break
• Riders dealing with fear and confidence issues
• Horses with a history of abuse and mishandling
• Horses with limited, incomplete, or incorrect training
• Horses of many different breeds and temperaments

Shannon Loven-Thompson has over 20 years experience teaching children and training ponies for show and pleasure. Currently, Shannon has a waiting list for new students starting as young as 4 years of age. Our ponies have years of experience teaching beginners and competing at horse shows of all kinds. Students compete regularly and are often among the show leaders. Our students enjoy consistent competition in Eventing, Dressage, State 4-H Horse Shows, Pony Club Championships, GDCTA events, and local hunter shows.
Shannon enjoys developing a robust group of child safe ponies at a variety of skill levels as well as young riders to enjoy the ponies she trains. Areas of specialization: early youth riders, equitation, dressage, show jumping, three (3) day eventing, and western pleasure.

Hunter, Jumper, Equitation.

Casey began riding in 1989, when she was 5yo. at Chastain Stables, in Atlanta GA, learning Hunter/Jumpers. In 1990 she start competing in the Hunters. Casey moved to Roswell GA and started riding and competing in local and the 'A's with Linda Allen in Marietta, GA. After She moved down to McDonough, GA she started riding with Barry Lane. She moved back to Roswell in 1999 and started showing in 'AA' Jumpers with Bob Buxton. After moving back to McDonough, Casey went to Merideth Manor International Equestrian School in Waverly, WV where she studied Equine Health and Equine Massage Therapy. After school she rode with Barbara Bancroft until she moved back down to GA. She opened Creekwood Stables and rode with Daniel Geitner.
During operating Creekwood Stables, Casey has produced many Hunters and Jumpers that have won from local - AA shows through out the zone. Luella Stables offers boarding, lessons for the beginner and intermediate rider and trail riding for all ages and requires no prior experience to participate. Lessons are offered Monday through Thursday. We specialize in first time riders and molding each student into all around equestrians. Students experience grooming, saddling, feeding, bathing and more about the overall experience of owning a horse. Students are welcome at the age of 4 and 5 but they are truly capable of gaining the most at ages 6 and up. I suggest our Friday night rides to children younger than 6 and please bring the entire family! It's only $10 per person for a 20 minute trail ride. We offer this every Friday 4:30 to dark.
