Huntington Farm Hanoverians is a full-service hunter/jumper stable offering private lessons for children and adults from the beginner novice through advanced level rider. Whether you are new to horseback riding or are a seasoned competitor, Huntington Farm can help tailor a program to suit you. Lessons are personalized to each riders individual goals with a focus on safety and success for both horse and rider. All riding lessons at Huntington Farm are instructed by owner/trainer Mary Jane Todd-Day. Mary Jane enjoys working with both adult amateur riders and young riders alike, using positive training and coaching methods that take into consideration each rider's ability and riding goals with an emphasis on horsemanship, education and success. We specialize in lessons for the beginner rider up to advanced-competition levels. We offer lessons in both English and Western.

Beginner Private lessons($40) are always one student per instructor. Designed for students who have little or no experience, the following skills are covered: Grooming, saddling, leading, mounting, adjusting stirrup length, maneuvering a mount at walk and trot around the ring. Students will remain in this specially priced lesson program until it is determined by the instructor that sufficient proficiency has been attained in the above basic skills. At that time the student may either move into a group lesson or choose to remain in 1/2 hr. privates at the regular price.

Our Private Lessons($45) are always one student per instructor. Private lessons are a perfect compliment to group lessons to help focus on particular problems. It is suggested that riders have their mounts fully warmed up and ready for the lesson in order to get full benefit from the lesson.

Our group lessons($30/person) are 1 Hour long and have from 3-6 riders. We form our groups based upon rider ability level and whenever possible by age also. All new riders must first take private lessons so that we can assess the rider's ability.... See More

Rio Vista Farm, located on the banks of the Colorado River, opened to the public in 1995. The facility quickly became the premier Hunter/Jumper stable of Austin, offering top quality care and professional training for both horse and rider.

Located 3 miles from Austin Airport, within 15 minutes from downtown Austin and the University of Texas, and about 25 minutes from Westlake Hills (with van transportation service available from convenient Westlake location.
Head Trainer Susan McMorris instructs those that own their own horses or are leasing. Boarders sign up for 2 specific group lesson days and times per week. This allows us to group together riders by ability and to limit lesson size. Susan began her professional career in 1984 after graduating from Meredith Manor School of Equestrian Studies. She has operated Hunter/Jumper training/lesson barns since 1985, creating many lesson programs and summer camp operations that have been copied throughout the city. She has taken many riders from summer camp level to year end high point winner in Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation. Rio Vista riders can be seen in the high point standings of local and Texas A shows on a yearly basis.

Assistant Trainers Haylee Morris and Amy Gangstad are available for those students that ride the lesson horses or to beginner rider boarders. Haylee has 15+ years of experience teaching riders of all levels provides her with the knowledge and patience to provide excellent instruction to both first time riders or those with more experience. Amy began her riding career with Susan and upon graduation from St. Edwards University began working as a professional trainer/rider.
Group Lessons: (45 minutes to 1 hour) Available on a monthly basis only. $190 monthly with a $100 deposit for once a week lessons. One month notice required to discontinue lessons. Deposit applied to final month after proper notice is given.

Private Lessons: (45 minutes) $65 for initial introductory private lesson. After initial private, lessons available on a monthly basis only. $330 monthly with a $150 deposit for once a week private lessons.

Training: If you have a horse that needs to be trained to go under saddle, needs a little more finish, better manners, better headset, etc, please contact me. I use Parelli Natural horsemanship techniques and do lots of ground work to get them to accept people as leaders! I teach the horse to respect you as a rider and to engage it’s hindquarters, and to have better flexion and softness. I do round pen work, arena work, and also trail work, mostly w a western saddle. I think a horse to needs be de-sensitized to many environments. I also have a lot of experience with endurance riding, and have an excellent endurance completion record and a lot of knowledge to share about how to successfully get through an endurance ride! I have 22 years of experience with showing, breaking, finishing, cart training, lessons, maintenance, show preparation; basically everything horse related. I work mostly with Quarter Horses, Paints, and other stock horses but have and love to work with Arabs, Morgans, T. Walkers, etc. Showed AQHA nationally and won many national and state titles. Deirdre Dressage offers two highly qualified instructors for you to choose from. We offer lessons for very beginners learning basic horsemanship to FEI dressage. We have wonderful school horses to fit everyone's level. We also offer two FEI schoolmasters to learn the upper level movements on.

Our trainers also accept horses into training. We accept young horses to high level competition horses for promotions and sales. We are proud that we are able to offer training for every type of horse and bring each horse's natural talents out.
