Laurie Jarvis

Laurie began riding at the age of 4 in San Diego, CA at one of San Diego’s Premier Hunter Jumper barns. After successfully competing in the Greater San Diego Hunter Jumper Association for more than 12 years, she began riding Dressage at the age of 16 and was lucky enough to train with two Olympic trainers for Dressage and Jumping.

At just 17 years old, Laurie qualified for her first of many Grand Prixs on her horse Allocated Spirit. She has also competed successfully up to 4th level Dressage.

With more than 28 years of riding experience and 14 years of training she believes in teaching core fundamentals. Laurie says “I believe that riding should be both fun and rewarding. I train beginners to experienced riders and riders who are wanting to learn how to barrel race. I work well with children ages 5 + to Adults. Western riding only. You decide how many lessons are right for you; I offer weekly and one on one lessons with myself. Not only learning how to ride but these lessons include basic horsemanship, care, grooming, safety, maintenance and horse knowledge. I charge $30 per hour each lesson if you do not have your own horse and are needing to use a horse of mine that best qualifies to your skill level I charge $40/hour each lesson. Crystal Bailey has been riding and competing her whole life. She began riding English showing in hunter jumping. A couple years after, when she was twelve, Crystal began riding, competing and learning everything there is to know about reining and speed horses. She has won money and many titles in the NRHA, NBHA, APHA, AQHA and many other organizations. Brigadoon Farm offers a carefully developed western riding program for teaching horsemanship skills to all ages and levels of riders. Each lesson is individualized and focused on safety, positive reinforcement, and fun. Basic beginner to advanced riding lessons are offered with refresher courses for those who rode as youngsters and want to get back in the saddle again as adults. Lessons are developed and given by personnel with University degrees in Education and Equine Science.

”In addition, Brigadoon Farm hosts the South Texas branch of the International Performance Horse Development Association (IPHDA). As such, people taking lessons have an opportunity to compete internationally via the internet. The organization includes horse shows which are video taped, uploaded to youtube and entered to be judged by highly qualified horse professionals. Our barn has a safe, open concept for optimum ventilation, socialization, and comfort for the horse and rider. A large indoor hallway leads to a 90 x 175 lighted, covered arena. Other amenities include a 350 x 100 outdoor arena; a lighted, covered 45 foot in diameter round pen; a large 100 foot in diameter round pen; lighted, concrete wash rack with hot and cold water; and acres of trail riding

The owners have lived on the property for almost 30 years; a barn manager, trainer, and interns from all over the United States and the world also on the property. The tack room contains a dehumidifier, air conditioner, refrigerator, microwave and wifi so observers can be comfortable as they watch friends who might be riding outside in inclement weather. An indoor rest room with a shower provides a place where those who come directly from work to ride can change their clothes

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE INTERNSHIPS & COLLEGE CREDIT: Interns have come from many different states including California, Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York. International interns have come from countries such as Australia, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Germany, and Poland.

Not all interns are college students, but interns from schools such as Purdue, the University of Maryland, and Northeastern Junior College in Colorado have received college credit from their respective schools. Brigadoon Farm offers Horsemanship at Alvin Community College. PHED 1145 is a college credit course providing basic information on riding, handling, training, and caring for horses.
