Cari rode her first GP horse with Wolfgang May when she had just turned 17 and spent close to 6 years working with him and several other of the Tempel Farms riders, as she became a trainer there when she turned 18. Cari has over 50 years of experience as a professional. She was a WS to Olympic coach Melle Van Bruggen and then spent 5 years working for Olympic team member John Winnett. Cari also has worked for or lessoned/cliniced with many, many top international known trainers such as Natalie Lamping, George Williams, Kathy Connelly, Mette Rosencranz, Hans Biss, Col. Hans Mueller, and Robert Dover. Having been on the board of the IDCTA for many years, Cari was privileged to have access to the clinics at Tempel Farms with Gunter Seidel, Conrad Schumacher, and Reiner Klimke. She always takes full advantage of every opportunity to learn everything she can in order to pass that knowledge along to her students. Her students and horses have won many local, state and regional championships and she herself won several National and Grand National Championships before she was 18, training Paso Finos for Rancho Del Rosa, first in IL and then in North Carolina. This enabled her to finance her dressage passion and to buy her first nice horse from Bodo Hangen, who kindly made it available to her for a reasonable price. Heart to Hoof Horsemanship with Yvonne Welz: Riding lessons available for serious students who are interested in learning about classical schooling of the horse using bitless bridles. A focus on natural horse care, barefoot management, and classical techniques that are health promoting. Well-trained bitless schoolhorses are available for riding lessons. They are priceless! Yvonne offers a unique approach to riding and horse care that is centered around what is truly good for the horse.

Current 2023 rates: Private lessons $65 per hour at our facility, which includes the use of one of our schoolhorses.

Yvonne Welz is a professional horsewoman with over 35 years of equine management and training experience. Formerly a competitive dressage rider, she schooled many horses up to an advanced level and achieved national awards with them. Always focused on learning, Yvonne studied the finer art of classical horsemanship even while she was competing. This included the French classical methods, which she learned directly from world class horsemen. She loves passing on this valuable knowledge to her riding students. She has trained many horses from scratch, starting them under saddle and schooling them to higher levels. She finds great joy in teaching horses how to use their bodies in a way that improves them both physically and mentally. She studied several different methods of natural horsemanship, and also trained in equine nutrition, saddle fitting, and barefoot hoof trimming. In 2013, she discovered the bitless wheel bridles and embraced classical riding without the use of bits! Yvonne is an Associate Trainer with the World Bitless Association.

Annemieke Buis is a freelance trainer specializing in classical dressage whose intention is to improve equine welfare through training horses and educating horse people in equine psychology and biomechanics.

She has over 18 years of experience in numerous disciplines including eventing, hunter/jumpers, fox-hunting, trail, driving, and dressage. She taught a series of international Master Classes on dressage, horsemanship, and equine bodywork in 2020 sponsored by Fundación Tequendama Horse Connection in both English and Spanish. She completed an internship in equine-therapy and trained rescue horses at a natural horsemanship farm near Mérida, México. She founded the riding school at Red-Wing Meadow Farm in Christiana, TN, where she taught horsemanship and riding lessons, directed summer camps, hosted dressage clinics, and trained horses for 7 years.

Her training is informed by a Bachelor of Science in psychology and further education in equine neurophysiology, equine myofascial kinetic lines, horse and rider biomechanics, equine laterality, hoof balance, and evidence-based bridle and saddle fit. Annemieke Buis takes a holistic approach on horse training that focuses on meeting the physical and emotional needs of both horse and rider, to enable the mutual trust and attunement necessary to meet training objectives. She combines techniques from several disciplines, particularly French classical dressage to allow the horse to thrive in mind and body and develop communication to cue and accentuate their natural movements.

In addition to offering lessons and training in the saddle, Annemieke always starts the lesson or training session with walking with the horse from the pasture or stall, grooming, and tacking up (if applicable), because the "training" does not exist in isolation, and even professional riders can unintentionally create or overlook tension in themselves and their horses before the ride even begins. Training involves every moment spent with the horse. One of Annemieke’s strengths is working with anxious and traumatized horses, in identifying the source of anxiety, validating it, and then holding space for the emotion to transform using gentleness, mindfulness, and positive leadership. She employs bodywork brain-based groundwork, classical in-hand work, lunging, liberty training, and under saddle work in almost every session to facilitate human and equine learning through many modalities.
Annemieke also has abundant experience training in hunter-jumper and eventing, using the fundamentals of dressage as the foundation for over-fences work to ensure proper balance and subtle, yet clear communication. Many of her clients are also western pleasure and trail riders, as the fundamentals of classical dressage improve the health and happiness of all horses, no matter their lifestyle.

Annemieke also offers therapeutic horsemanship and horseback riding lessons, which are lessons that are adjusted to meet the needs of people with physical or mental health challenges or disabilities. Time frames are not important when you learn to enjoy and trust the path you are on rather than trying to rush to complete your goals. It takes time to learn how to communicate with your horse and explain what you are asking, and then give them the time they need to develop and actually learn the exercises. When you take it day by day, month by month you will be surprised at how fast the progress actually comes.
