River Chase Farm brings together over 50 years of combined experience in riding instruction and horse shows. Our team of professional instructors provides something for everyone from the serious competitor to the weekend hobbyist . Many of our students compete in the VHSA and USEF horse shows. We offer flexible lesson times at reasonable rates with both private and group lesson options. Students must be at least 5 yrs of age.

Students are expected to arrive in time to groom and tack their horses and to care for the horses when the lessons are finished. For those who are unable to prepare and put their mounts away independently, private or semi-preview lessons are provided.

Little Burgundy Farm is a privately owned and operated farm that provides group and private horse riding lessons. We are located only a couple miles south of the beltway near Telegraph road.

Kilfinnan Stables is a full service equine facility offering training, lessons, clinics, sales and boarding. Lessons and Training are provided by Advanced Three Day Event Rider Sean McQuillan. Sean offers instruction to riders of all ages and abilities, focusing on good horsemanship, solid basics, proper balance, and the relationship and communication between horse and rider and has been helping students form great partnerships with their horses for over 15 years. He is well known for his patience, communication skills, and takes pride in getting the best out of each student and horse. Zephyr Stables offers riding lessons to all ages. English and Western lessons are available from beginner to advanced. We offer a fun atmosphere and learning experience for anyone interested in horses. We specialize in rehabilitation of rescue horses that are used in the riding programs. We offer weekly trail rides as a group or schedule your own ride. Take some lessons and join in on the weekly rides. Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. Travel Team members must attend class a minimum of 2x weekly and are eligible to participate in off-farm events such as trail rides, hunter paces, and horse shows.
