Equus Springs Farm offers lessons in both hunt seat and western pleasure, and are open to beginner through intermediate riders ages 5 and up. Our budget friendly lessons are designed to create a partnership between the horse and rider based on trust and understanding and effective communication. Lessons include grooming, tacking, and other ground skills, along with mounted skills. Our farm has a number of high quality school horses and ponies for all riders regardless of experience, or you may trailer in your own horse for lessons.

Couderay Springs Farm offers horseback riding lessons for all ages and all levels of riders. We specialize in well rounded English lessons that are safe, fun, and educational. Our goal is to teach the rider to become a partner with their horse and fully understand him at all levels. We provide individual and small group (2-3 people) lessons and have an excellent crew of lesson horses of varying abilities. Additionally, we provide partial and full leases to people in our lesson program and also gladly accept ship ins. Our facility has over 50 acres 20 min south of Charlottesville, which include a sand ring with hunter/jumper jumps, a center aisle barn with tack room and bathroom, and trails that wind around the property.

Over 25 years of experience support our philosophies and we truly believe that one is always learning. The main instructor has studied with top riders both locally and abroad, in many different disciplines including hunters, jumpers, eventing, dressage, driving, and western. Country Meadow Farm, LLC has a dynamic team of instructors that are now accepting new students, beginner through advanced. We welcome all ages of riders 6 years old and up. We offer most disciplines with an emphasis based on groundwork to provide an understanding of the language of the horse. This will in turn translate to a balanced seat and correct use of the aids to achieve the optimum relationship with the horse that you desire. We value the horse as a partner in our goal setting, whether that be winning a national title or maximizing your enjoyment of trail riding. You can enjoy taking lessons on one of our program horses, or you can trailer your own horse to the farm for a more personal experience. We also are thrilled to travel to you for lessons or a clinic.
Shelby is a Certified Instructor, through the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA), in both the Western and Hunter seat riding disciplines, as well as jumping. She has also achieved her Equine Facility Manager Certification through CHA. As the Virginia Representative for CHA, she would be thrilled to help others get their certifications in one of the many areas that CHA offers. Shelby is also an American Quarter Horse Association Professional Horseman, providing training, lessons and boarding at Country Meadow Farm, LLC. She is available for clinics throughout the year.
With a high level of standards, Shelby has hand selected a team of instructors to help her with beginner and intermediate lessons. Each individual has passed a skills test and has student taught under Shelby's supervision. In addition, each instructor has either achieved their instructor certification through CHA or is actively pursuing it.
Shelby is available for judging, as a certified and carded open horse show judge. Also, she is trained through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning to offer a highly successful experience for a wide variety of individuals. She works hand in hand with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the equine to create a healing triad.
Country Meadow Farm, LLC also offers boarding, training, clinics, equine retirement, and other specialized services for horses recovering from medical treatment or abusive trauma.

Kelsey has competed her 2 horses from their first event to the CCI* and intermediate levels. She also has experience in dressage, jumpers, 4H, and polocrosse. At Mahalo Farm in Earlysville, VA, we provide riding and carriage driving lessons for children and adults. Hunter-jumper, western, dressage and combined driving disciplines are offered as well as basic horsemanship skills for recreational riders who just want to trail ride or have fun. Our approach to riding is based on a strong foundation of natural horsemanship methods, Alexander Technique and Pilates, balanced seat, minimal aids, consideration of the horse and fun and safety for the rider. Private and semi-private lessons are offered as well as longer 1/2 day and full day lesson programs or trail rides during weekends, holidays and vacations. We also go to several local shows each year, attend several hunter paces and even go fox hunting several times a year.
For experienced riders, we offer partial leases of our well-trained and well-behaved horses. It's almost like owning a horse without all the extra expenses. It's a great way to enjoy horses, see the Virginia countryside from horseback and know that someone else is caring for the horses when you aren't around.
We also offer field boarding to a limited number of horses. All pastures have run-in sheds, fresh water and shade. Organic principles are followed throughout the farm including feeding organically/transitionally grown hay during the winter.
