Skyline Stables features affordable boarding, riding lessons and guided trail rides for the non-competitive rider. We understand that not everyone prefers a show barn. We help you take care of your horse providing them with daily care and green pastures to keep them healthy and happy. We focus on quality care for your horses and a relaxed, enjoyable environment for our riders.

We are one of a few facilities still offering hourly guided trail rides in the New River Valley. Breath taking trails take you from mountain-top pasture down to the New River. Our riding lessons for English or Western disciplines are given by experienced horsewomen, with no yelling or stressful interaction. Our goal is to create better horsemen/women as well as competent, confident riders.

Self care pasture board starts at $150/month. Boarders enjoy our full size indoor arena for bad weather riding, a convenient outdoor arena, a new round pen planned for spring 2013 and over 500 acres of scenic trails over mountaintop pasture, through dense woodlands, leading right down to the New River.

Our friendly and relaxed atmosphere and wonderful clientele will welcome you and your horse. New boarders quickly feel at home and part of “the family”. There is always someone to hit the trails with. We grow our own quality mix of alfalfa and timothy and alfalfa and orchard grass right here on the farm. On-site owners Matt & JB oversee the daily care of your horse.

We are conveniently located 1.5 miles from Radford University and 15 miles from Virginia Tech. Only 4 miles from Interstate 81, and 12 minutes from Christiansburg.

Couderay Springs Farm offers horseback riding lessons for all ages and all levels of riders. We specialize in well rounded English lessons that are safe, fun, and educational. Our goal is to teach the rider to become a partner with their horse and fully understand him at all levels. We provide individual and small group (2-3 people) lessons and have an excellent crew of lesson horses of varying abilities. Additionally, we provide partial and full leases to people in our lesson program and also gladly accept ship ins. Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. Limited adult lessons may be available, please feel free to reach out and ask!

SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. Travel Team members must attend class a minimum of 2x weekly and are eligible to participate in off-farm events such as trail rides, hunter paces, and horse shows. Our lessons for beginners include ground time, grooming and tacking instruction. Once young riders are proficient in this process, then lesson time will begin when mounted. All riders need to wear proper riding boots and a safety approved helmet. New riders must have a copy of a current medical insurance card and a signed release waiver on file. Lessons may include mounted exercises as well as theory lessons (unmounted). We ride both in and out of the ring for a well-balanced riding education. Baily Dent Equestrian is an established program located in just outside of Charlottesville, Va. at Millington Stables. Our facility boasts 50 stalls, 2 out door rings, spacious grassy turnout, and 1000+ acres of trails through Farmington Hunt Country. Baily Dent is our head trainer. She grew up riding and showing in Charlottesville, Virginia and has spent a lifetime showing at some of the most prestigious horse show in the country. Baily has successfully brought along many young horses and riders to achieve the same kind of success she has enjoyed throughout her career. Baily stresses good basics in her teaching and believes that this strong foundation is what brings riders success in and out of the show ring with their horses.
