Our trainers oversee every aspect of the horses' care, providing each horse with an individualized, comprehensive feed, care, and training program. We strongly believe that happy and health horses perform best and it is the result of the entire program that our horses perform successfully. Horses at Ascend benefit from daily review of health by the staff and trainer/ management coordinated veterinarian, farrier, and chiropractic programs. Our service providers work closely with each other and trainers to ensure a well-rounded program for your horse.

For the convenience of our clients and health of our horses, our board is all-inclusive, ensuring that your horse is properly cared for year-round, 24-7. We understand that clients are busy and have other commitments so it is our goal to provide all necessary care for your horse, regardless of if you can be present or not. Trainers oversee daily horse care, daily medical care, administration of medications, hand walking for horses on stall rest, blanketing, and anything else necessary to ensure the health and happiness of your horse.

We feed only the highest quality of hay and feed and use high-quality absorbent shavings for the comfort of your horse and our horses benefit from daily private or small group turnout, weather permitting, and regular arena turnout and lunging as necessary.

Our professional staff of grooms bring decades of experience in horse care and a wealth of knowledge to Ascend Equestrian. For the safety of your horse, our professional staff members live onsite and are available for night checks in the event of health concerns.

All horses are in full training with Ascend Equestrian training staff and owners have the option to mix and match up to 5 lessons or training rides per week. Our trainers help to design the correct training schedule for you and your horse in order to ensure optimal improvement and advancement for horses and riders. We understand that life happens and owners may miss lessons. Trainers are available to provide extra training rides in order to ensure that training never lapses and horses are properly exercised each week.

Owners/riders receive the individual attention and quality instruction that has been proven to lead to continuous improvement and success in the show ring. Our trainers maintain a careful balance between fun and the hard work and discipline necessary to promote optimal improvement.

Our training philosophy focuses on teaching students not only to be successful show riders, but also to become successful horsewomen and men. At SMR Equestrian, we believe that horsemanship starts on the ground and the most successful riders are horsewomen and men first. Riders are taught proper care for the elite equine athlete and encouraged to take an active role in training and caring for their horses. Qualified riders are encouraged to participate in our working student program, which allows riders to help in the barn and hone their skills exercising and schooling a variety of SMR horses.

Emphasis is placed on having a correct and effective rider position as “form follows function”. Flatwork and position are honed in lessons and riders benefit from Sarah’s background in Psychology as they learn the necessary mental discipline and focus to reach the highest levels of riding and competition.

We combine our lessons with articles, videos (both educational and of oneself) and demonstration rides in order to provide a well-rounded learning experience that is suitable for all learning types. Riders and parents are encouraged to participate in regular meetings with training staff to discuss rider goals, help riders set attainable goals and create a plan for achieving their goals.

Our goal is not only to train the horse, but to strengthen, condition, and balance the horse in order to ensure optimal health and performance. We are a new, small family boarding facility catering to retirement horses and casual riding. There are 13 rolling pastured acres, beautiful airy barn, 6 10X12 matted stalls (although in good weather horses will be outside most of the time), automatic waterers, heated tack room, wash stall with hot water, a large outdoor arena, run-ins and premium hay/ feed. We understand that you have many choices when it comes to choosing a home for your horse. It's important that you feel comfortable with the care and safety of the facility and it is important that you feel comfortable with the people and the atmosphere of the barn. With that in mind, we offer worry free full service boarding. With the owner/ trainer, Jane Hall, living on site, you can be confident that your horse is always under a watchful eye. The 10 x 12 stalls are cleaned seven days a week, and your horse is turned out seven days a week, weather permitting. 24 hour turnout is also available during good weather. Hay is fed in the paddocks and when the horses are in, hay is fed four times a day. Quality Purina and Buckeye feeds are fed twice a day with supplements (provided by you) fed at no extra cost. Our indoor arena is 60 x 120, well lit and well ventilated, our dressage mirrors will help you check your position or see just what your horse is doing as you ride. We have a heated observation room with kitchenette and restroom.

Our boarders have been with us for 10+ years and have enjoyed the relaxed, fun environment. With Tuesday night potluck and riding, yoga night (yes, it does help you ride better!) wine tasting parties, games on horseback in the winter months when things can get boring. We travel to shows of all types and trail ride a lot! If it can be done on or with a horse, someone here has done it!

And men, this isn't a "girls only" barn. As the home of the Michigan Cavalry Brigade, we have men who ride here! Mounted shooting sports, saber courses and mounted drill practices are just a few of the other "try something new" things to do here. You are always welcome to join in or just watch the fun.
