My hoofcare journey started with one too many frustrating farrier experiences with my Thoroughbred eventer, prompting me to decide to learn to do it myself. I quickly discovered Pete Ramey and then Progressive Hoof Care Practitioners, and one thing led to another, and now here we are. I believe that no matter your discipline, your horses will be best served by striving to grow the healthiest hooves that they can.
My pricing structure is $50 for a routine barefoot trim (ie last trim no longer than a six weeks ago, no major behavioral issues for trimming, etc). Shoeing, boot fitting, horses whose last trim was more than six weeks ago, or horses for whom I need to schedule extra time for any other reason are charged at an hourly rate (rounded to the nearest quarter hour) based on the number of routine trims I could have gotten done in that time, plus materials where applicable. Travel fees are currently being reworked and are based on travel time.

I learned to ride a horse (Baby Bull) when I was four years old. I’ve been involved with horses and riding ever since. Growing up in a business-minded, competitive, disciplined, and artistic family helped me graduate at the top of my class from the Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School. But my equine education doesn’t stop there. I stay up to date as changes in Farrier service techniques are refined and improved by regularly attending seminars, lectures and conventions. In addition to instruction, occupational experience leads me to opportunities like working on what was once the tallest horse in the world (according to the Guinness Book of World Records), Remington, and the former AQHA world champion reining horse, Texas Kicker. I’ve worked on horses at top ranches in the country, including Stuart Ranch (ranked in the top 15 of horse ranches by Western Horseman magazine), the Jud Little Ranch and the Pieper Ranch. Kris Kokal is currently attending Cornell's Farrier program and plans on a May 2016 completion. Kris graduated form Sur Shod Shoeing Academy in 2004 and completed a barefoot trim certification after two years of mentorships and traveling to the UK to complete his studies in 2006. He has 12 years experience working with all breeds as a trainer, trimmer and shoer. Kris is a certified Equine Dental Technician graduating in 2011. Kris hand floats without sedation.
