Horse trails of Wesley Woods' countryside give a real appreciation for God's wonderful creation. First time campers learn to care for their pony or their horses and how to ride. All campers progress through skill levels as they learn basics, and move on to more advanced riding challenges. Campers live in cabins and eat family style in the dining hall. They become a Christian community as they spend time with counselors and each other. Making time for Bible study, prayer, singing, and worship is always important at Wesley Woods. Horse events nurture campers in special ways that lead to spiritual growth. Pony Camp offers beginning and advanced riding groups. Campers have at least one hour a day with the ponies. They help care for ponies, watch staff saddle and bridle and when ready practice this process. Pony campers learn to ride both in the pony rink and on trails. Careful attention is given to campers' experience and readiness to take on new skills. Horse campers have three hours of horse time each day. Extended horse campers have five hours of horse time each day. The PROGRESSIVE HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAM (PHP) has four levels. As the camper passes through these levels successfully they are awarded a pin to recognize the accomplishment. “Progression” is the key word as campers move from getting started to being good riders.
