Dr. Metcalf, offers podiatry services tailored to your horses needs. Our goal is to not only provide additional services to improve your horses overall performance / well-being but to provide an integrated approach, involving both your farrier and your veterinarian. With an estimated 80% of lameness issues stemming from a problem associated with the foot, an understanding of the biomechanical / physiologic as well as pathologic conditions of the foot is required to provide the best therapy for your horses needs.
Services provided include, consultation with you or you and your farrier. Digital radiographs used to guide the application the appropriate orthotic. Contrast venogram; available as a diagnostic aid for laminitic cases. Application of various therapeutic shoes both nail on or glue on, as well as hot and cold shoeing applications for the treatment of various conditions of the foot. Corrections associated with hoof capsule distortions such as long toe-under run heels, club feet and sheared heels. Corrections of wall defects such as quarter cracks, toe cracks, and various traumatic conditions of the hoof wall. Treatment of severe infections such as canker, thrush, seedy toe, and severe abscesses, and puncture wounds. Treatment and removal of keratomas. Juvenile orthotics provide both evaluation and treatment of angular, flexural, and rotational deformities associated with the developing juvenile.
Furthermore, we provide additional services in the areas of equine chiropractics, sports medicine, acupuncture, and advanced equine dentistry. We are a 24 hour facility equipped with digital radiograph, ultrasound and endoscopic capabilities.
