Our academy is based on a structured program that has proven and applied itself for the past 30+ years. We called it EQUES rider. This program is based on level. The student start at Rider 1, and will work to achieve their Rider 4 certification. Each student will learn and practice the skills necessary to graduate to the next level.
Our mission is to teach our riders to become better horsemen and horsewomen. Horse care, proper body position, safety around horses and body control are some examples of what our program teaches. Each Student will learn and apply important skills that can be used in any discipline they would like to pursue.
EQUES Academy will concentrate their program on building skillful and mindful riders, using the wide range of skills and techniques that they will practice during their lessons.

Storybrooke Farms specializes in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation and Dressage. Our objective is to provide children and amateur owners with competitive partners who are confident, safe, and athletic. Safety and horsemanship are top priorities. Storybrooke students not only to work toward mastering skills while mounted, but also to learn proper care and handling, as well as a basic understanding of equine psychology. We compete at all levels of shows from schooling to the ‘AA’ Circuit and instruct beginner through advanced riders. We are based out two of a beautiful facilities, one in Chapel Hill within 15 minutes of UNC and Duke, as well as in Wake Forest, 15 minutes north of downtown. Traveling Trainer services are offered on a limited basis within the Triangle. Trailer-In lessons are also welcome at either facility.

Lessons are taught by a certified American Riding Instructor, with over 26 years of experience competing, training, teach and showing all over the midwest and east coast. Kylie Barrows has many years experience competing in dressage and eventing. Training and lessons are offered to horses and riders of all experience levels, with an emphasis on kind and correct training principles, safety, and fun. Our goal at Castle French Farm is to introduce people to horses. In educating you about these amazing animals, we hope to inspire respect, admiration and passion for the sport and recreation of horseback riding. While taking lessons at Castle French Farm, you will receive outstanding goal oriented instruction and personal attention in your quest to learn about horses. We teach the American system of forward riding and encourage students from all levels ages 7 and up to learn and develop their own personal horsemanship skills. If you or your child has never touched a horse, but is horse crazy, we can help you/them gain the confidence and skill-set required to safely handle them. If you or your child is experienced, we have well-schooled horses and to meet the challenge of your/their continued riding and horsemanship growth. An Evaluation Lesson is required for each new student. The evaluation lesson serves as an introduction to our riding program. In this lesson, an instructor can assess the student's riding abilities, allowing the rider to be placed in an appropriate skill level. Wonderland farm is a hunter/jumper equestrian facility. Convieniently located 12 miles west of Wilmington on 106 acres, offering the largest selection of lesson mounts in the area, from quiet beginner safe to highly trained advanced horses.

Owner and head instructor Karen Mealey has a BA degree in Equine Studies from Virginia Intermont College. She concentrates her teaching toward intermediate and advanced students. The farm offers lessons to all levels and specializes in providing beginning students, kids and adults, from 5 to 75 years old with a safe, knowledgeable, and fun experience.

Assistant Instructor Mackenzie Ring has been a long time student of Karen's and teaches the beginner and novice riders. Her patience and consistent teaching skills have turned out many riders with a good foundation.
The farm puts on horse shows at the farm throughout the year. Students also participate in away shows at the rated level. Horses are available for lessons as for lease on the farm as well as a nice selection for sale.
