Storybrooke Farms specializes in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation and Dressage. Our objective is to provide children and amateur owners with competitive partners who are confident, safe, and athletic. Safety and horsemanship are top priorities. Storybrooke students not only to work toward mastering skills while mounted, but also to learn proper care and handling, as well as a basic understanding of equine psychology. We compete at all levels of shows from schooling to the ‘AA’ Circuit and instruct beginner through advanced riders. We are based out two of a beautiful facilities, one in Chapel Hill within 15 minutes of UNC and Duke, as well as in Wake Forest, 15 minutes north of downtown. Traveling Trainer services are offered on a limited basis within the Triangle. Trailer-In lessons are also welcome at either facility.

Lessons are taught by a certified American Riding Instructor, with over 26 years of experience competing, training, teach and showing all over the midwest and east coast. Kylie Barrows has many years experience competing in dressage and eventing. Training and lessons are offered to horses and riders of all experience levels, with an emphasis on kind and correct training principles, safety, and fun. Kylie and her horse Ascot competed very successfully at the Preliminary level, and Kylie now is focused on training horses and coaching her students to advance. Offering private beginner riding lessons to children and adults in the English discipline.

Lessons focus on flatwork to develop and fine tune seat/ leg aids. Students have the option to learn jumping, ground driving and dressage once they have developed a strong foundation in horsemanship and aids.

I believe in giving students clear instructions, just as the horse would like from their rider. Students will begin on a lunge line to develop feeling and connection with the horse. Once the student shows they are able to control the horse with the use of their body versus their hands, they will graduate to riding off the lunge line. Clear cues are difficult to implement when you are expected to juggle body position, weight balancing, correct aids, direction and speed before knowing what you are doing. When solid foundations are built, riders will excel with advancements with ease!

Additionally, students may choose to spend partial or whole lessons to learn about horse care, anatomy and grooming/ show grooming.

Welcome to EQUES Academy.
Our academy is based on a structured program that has proven and applied itself for the past 30+ years. We called it EQUES rider. This program is based on level. The student start at Rider 1, and will work to achieve their Rider 4 certification. Each student will learn and practice the skills necessary to graduate to the next level.
Our mission is to teach our riders to become better horsemen and horsewomen. Horse care, proper body position, safety around horses and body control are some examples of what our program teaches. Each Student will learn and apply important skills that can be used in any discipline they would like to pursue.

Equestrian Arts Institute is a true equestrian educational experience. We not only educate our riders how to ride, we always incorporate horsemanship educational opportunities.
