Sundance Stables offers lessons for riders of all ages with a passion to learn all aspects of horsemanship, as well as develop a strong relationship with their horse. Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. Limited adult lessons may be available, please feel free to reach out and ask!

SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. Travel Team members must ride a minimum of 2x weekly and are eligible to attend off-farm events such as trail rides, hunter paces, and horse shows. Little Pond Farm offers English/Hunter lessons to children and adults of all ages on our horses or yours. Beginners to advanced riders welcome. We offer a quiet and fun atmosphere where you can take a leisurely stroll through the neighboring fields and trails or practice for the shows in our large sand arena. Equus Springs Farm offers lessons in both hunt seat and western pleasure, and are open to beginner through intermediate riders ages 5 and up. Our budget friendly lessons are designed to create a partnership between the horse and rider based on trust and understanding and effective communication. Lessons include grooming, tacking, and other ground skills, along with mounted skills. Our farm has a number of high quality school horses and ponies for all riders regardless of experience, or you may trailer in your own horse for lessons.

Any student that wishes to show may join the ESF Show Team. There is option to be a primary show rider or a pick up, show rider. ESF attends many shows year round. They participate in VHSA and AQHA shows.... See More

Professional Hunter/Eq training available - both instructors have a multitude of experience up and down the east coast - with focus on the flat work and fundamentals of riding. Both trainers will travel to local shows as well as A and AA shows.

Our lessons for beginners include ground time, grooming and tacking instruction. Once young riders are proficient in this process, then lesson time will begin when mounted. All riders need to wear proper riding boots and a safety approved helmet. New riders must have a copy of a current medical insurance card and a signed release waiver on file. Lessons may include mounted exercises as well as theory lessons (unmounted). We ride both in and out of the ring for a well-balanced riding education. Travelling to your barn for lessons and clinics is available. Please call for rates. 24 hour cancellation notice is required.
