Rushlow’s has four trainers on staff and two additional instructors. Combined we have over 150 years worth of equine experience out in the ring educating riders of all ages.

Our lessons are geared to match the level of the rider(s) adjusting and changing the approach we take to match the individual. We spend time educating our students on all aspects of the horse, from body parts to breed. Our programs cover everything from proper stall etiquette, tacking up a horse, leading the horse, mounting, dismounting, and last but not least, actually riding.

We have in excess of 12 lesson horses on staff at any given time. Our horses are ready and willing to help teach individuals of all ages about the art of riding. Most of our lesson horses are retired show horses that have had a wealth of experience in the show ring and are now enjoying a second career educating and entertaining others.

Lessons can be booked with as little as 24-hour notice, but it is recommended that you book your lesson at least one week in advance to ensure you have a spot in the class or the time you desire is available for a private lesson.

Whether you are just starting out or looking to advance your skills, we offer a fun and safe environment in which to grow as a rider. We accept riders of all ages and skill levels, and offer both private and small group lessons.

Our trainer will work with you and your horse to help you reach your goals, whether you plan to compete, wish to improve your skills, or are simply looking for a fun recreational activity. For our students interested in showing, our trainer is available to accompany you at shows as well.

Kellyn Burtka’s experience in the equestrian field is long and diverse. Starting at an early age, Kellyn has pursued a single-minded goal of excellence in all things equestrian, and has competed in the Michigan Hunter Jumper Association circuit events, as well as showing in numerous divisions including Hunt Seat, Western Pleasure, and gymkhana at various breed-association and open shows across the state.

Kellyn’s formal education includes a degree in Animal Science and Agribusiness Management from Michigan State University with a specialization in horses. In addition, Kellyn studied at the renowned Enniskillen College in Northern Ireland, receiving training in Show jumping, Dressage and Thoroughbred racing, as well as the breaking and training of green horses.

Kellyn has a long history of training and teaching, including teaching courses in topics from horse selection and confirmation, to driving draft horses, to equine plant toxicology. Kellyn founded the Novi High School Equestrian Team in 1999, and coached the team until 2007. Not satisfied with being on a horse, Kellyn also founded the MSU Driving Club in 2005, and competed at the Great Lakes International Draft Horse Show & Pull.

Kellyn has worked with horsemen from around the world to put together a training and teaching program that focuses on problem-solving with a light touch and starting young horses under saddle with an emphasis on positive communication. Kellyn’s methods include the best elements of Natural horsemanship combined with traditional European techniques.

Starting with horse safety, proper equipment fitting,grooming techniques and balancing and working with the horse techniques and core building excersizes

Our barn features an easy access parking lot,indoor arena for winter riding,heated grooming area (during cold months) pretty farm with a nice family atmosphere.No drama. Lessons are $20 for group lessons. You can join in on existing groups ($25 for a private lessons) the evaluation (trial) lesson is free. The trial lesson gives you a chance to meet the riding instructor, the horses. And evaluate your riding to determine your skill level and a lesson plan if you decide to continue with lessons.

We teach English, western, dressage,western dressage and barrel racing. I will teach jumping to students who own their own horse We have a rotating curriculum for students not focused in one event.

Leasing options- 1/3 lease (2 days a week) 1/2 lease $150 (4 days) full lease (6 days) $250.....weekly lessons are a requirement to be in the lease.

Boarding- pasture board (3 horses per paddock) with shelter and free choice hay (no grain) $225 per month. (Add $25 if your horse needs grain) stall boarding in our new modern style barn which is heated in the winter. 12x12 stalls cleaned daily. And bedded well in clean shavings.
