Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. Travel Team members must ride a minimum of 2x weekly and are eligible to attend off-farm events such as trail rides, hunter paces, and horse shows. Horseshoe Creek Stables offers public trailrides in Roanoke, Virginia located in a great country setting but close in to Roanoke City and Vinton. 1-Hr Trailrides are $30.00 each and prescheduled on weekends. I am a behavioral specialist, using liberty training (advanced groundwork) and classical Dressage technique/theory with an emphasis on biomechanics and "riding with humility" to achieve unity with your horse- making you and him/her reach for your potential and begin a journey of self transformation.

My training is Dressage based but I believe all horses need a versatile foundation and incorporate XC schooling, cavaletti, trail riding, and fun but challenging activities when appropriate to build confidence in the horse and rider. I teach riders of all ages and experience levels on their own horses in the comfort of their own facility. I can also travel to shows or schooling events. I teach classical, balanced hunt seat equitation - beginners through advanced and all ages using my show quality lesson master horses and poinies. We fox hunt with Bedford County Hunt, compete at hunter pace competitions, and local shows where my horses and students win by using the techniques of total horsemanship I stress at all times. The horse's well being is always first.

I have my "r" in USEF Hunters and Hunter Seat Equitation and have had it for many years - so I offer my services as a judge and clinician to educate my style of riding founded in the deep classical principals of correct forward seat riding.

Zephyr Stables offers riding lessons to all ages. English and Western lessons are available from beginner to advanced. We offer a fun atmosphere and learning experience for anyone interested in horses. We specialize in rehabilitation of rescue horses that are used in the riding programs.
