Horse Boarding in Henderson, Michigan (Shiawassee County)

Hello,

I have four horses I am looking to board somewhere temporarily, a maximum of 20 days. We would be looking for 4 stalls, preferably self care - as I have to older geldings that need a specialized diet. All are caught up on shots, worming, etc.

We also offer a full training program, for those looking to take their horses and/or riding to the next level. Full training includes four or more lessons/training rides weekly.

Our training philosophy focuses on teaching students not only to be successful show riders, but also to become successful horsewomen and men. At SMR Equestrian, we believe that horsemanship starts on the ground and the most successful riders are horsewomen and men first. Riders are taught proper care for the elite equine athlete and encouraged to take an active role in training and caring for their horses. Qualified riders are encouraged to participate in our working student program, which allows riders to help in the barn and hone their skills exercising and schooling a variety of SMR horses.

Emphasis is placed on having a correct and effective rider position as “form follows function”. Flatwork and position are honed in lessons and riders benefit from Sarah’s background in Psychology as they learn the necessary mental discipline and focus to reach the highest levels of riding and competition.

We combine our lessons with articles, videos (both educational and of oneself) and demonstration rides in order to provide a well-rounded learning experience that is suitable for all learning types. Riders and parents are encouraged to participate in regular meetings with training staff to discuss rider goals, help riders set attainable goals and create a plan for achieving their goals.

Our goal is not only to train the horse, but to strengthen, condition, and balance the horse in order to ensure optimal health and performance. We offer stall boarding with turn out at 6am. We feed 1x or 2x daily depending on your preference. We clean stalls everyday to every other day depending on weather conditions. We bring in around 3pm in winter and 6pm in summer. We supply round bales to the pastures through winter months. We have a 80x180 indoor arena and a decent size round pen. We also have dirt roads surrounding our property and the PollyAnne trail is 1/4 of a mile down the road from the farm. We feed 10% sweet feed and 1st-2nd cutting hay. Are you looking for a peaceful place to retire your horse? Whispering Willows Equine Retirement Home offers personalized retirement care for your older horse. We are a very small farm with the capacity of only four retirees so each one is truly a part of the family. Riding is not permitted on the property, but visiting and spending time with your horse is strongly encouraged. Here is what we offer.

Horses live in a lovely, rolling meadow with many trees for shade and a sturdy run-in shed to keep the weather out. A big plus is that there is no mud in the pasture because it is on higher ground than the surrounding land. Unfortunately, we do not have stalls at this time. They are fed good quality grass alfalfa mix hay from a local farm twice a day in the pasture. They are taken separately into the barn, groomed, and fed their grain twice a day with supplements added (if desired by owner). Blankets, if worn, are pulled off and checked at these times. Each horse receives specialized attention and care, complete with plenty of love and carrots.
